Anti-Slavery Day – 3 great organisations

Today is Anti-Slavery Day, a day created by parliament to raise awareness and ultimately to stop human trafficking.

The main purpose of Bramber Bakehouse is to create the best opportunities for the women we’ll work with, and we’ve been inspired by many people working to end modern day slavery. So, in keeping with Anti-Slavery day, here are three great organisations we love and admire who are working on the front line. If you’re inspired by today, and want to find out more then look them up and get involved.

A21 Campaign

Set up in 2008 by Christine Caine, the A21 Campaign is a global campaign which aims to protect, prevent and prosecute. Yesterday thousands of people from across the world walked in a single line to shout to the world that slavery is not ok. We love what these guys do, the passion they have to involve everybody in stopping human trafficking. Take a look at their website and search #walkforfreedom to see pictures and updates from yesterday.

Tearfund: No Child Taken Campaign

Tearfund exists to gather the Church to eliminate poverty. The No Child Taken Campaign aims to stop child trafficking in developing countries. This weekend the lovely Martha Collinson, from Bake Off fame, has been baking for 21 hours to raise money for the campaign. Over the last week hundreds of people have held bake sales to raise money and awareness. We obviously have a little soft spot for anyone who uses baking to raise awareness – baking and eliminating human trafficking what a perfect combination! See their website and have a look at Martha’s twitter to see how she got on.

Hope for Justice

Hope for Justice is a UK and US charity which advocates, identifies, rescues and provides restorative care for victims. One of the things we love about Hope for Justice is their abolitionist groups, allowing people to educate others, fundraise and act together to stop trafficking with their local communities. If you live near Manchester, Hope for Justice are hosting a night of music and fundraising. You can buy tickets here. To get involved with Hope for Justice take a look at their website.

These are just three out of the many organisations who are doing incredible things to stop human trafficking. We cannot wait to join these guys in the fight! We’ll be writing soon to let you know where we are up to and how you can help us.

Happy Anti-Slavery Day!
